jonfong57 made a comment on my video, "Yet Another Way To Use Carbon Felt With Your Trangia - Revisited:" "Hiram, without the carbon felt, the alcohol vapors contact the bottom of the pot and the pot temperature is less than or equal to 212° F. I think that with the carbon felt in place, it acts like an insulator, so the alcohol vapors can get to a much higher temperature. The higher temperatures feed back into the stove accelerating the vaporization rate thus creating a high pressure, thereby causing the flames to spread to a wider pattern. My 2 cents - Jon" I agree with Jon and in this video I do a little test to see if we can get an idea of what is happening. I'm pretty sure that most of the effect is from the carbon felt/fiber insulating the burner from the cold water in the pot. Here's a link to the video that I refered to. It's in my old channel.
